WALK-THRU: Installing InheriTax for a New User

Here's a step-by-step walk-through for updating an existing installation of InheriTax to the latest version.

Installing InheriTaxtakes only a few minutes.  There's a video below that shows you the process from start to finish.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Make sure you have local administrative privileges.  If you don't, have your IT folks on hand.
  2. Temporarilly disable anti-virus software.
  3. Download the latest version of InheriTax here.
  4. Launch the downloaded file which will be named something like 'pa2021-265.exe'.  Be sure to 'allow' the installation to proceed if prompted by Microsoft Defender.
  5. Step through the installation wizard using password 'paitax' on the first page, followed by the default settings on subsequent pages.
  6. The installation process usually takes a minute or so, and then launches InheriTax automatically.
  7. When InheriTax launches, enter your Correspondant information, followed by your Customer ID on the same Correspondant screen.
  8. Next, click on the license key field to navigate to the 'Enter New License Key' screen.  This screen shows step-by-step instructions, but a video on this is also available.  You can also reach the license key screen from the Main Menu if you choose.\
  9. After your license key is entered, you may want to set the default zoom level to make InheriTax fit to your screen.  From the Main Menu, you can reach that setting by entering the 'Options' screen (bottom left buton).  The zoom optios are on the bottom-right hand side of the Options screen.
  10. You're good to go!
